Ah, I really dig this, Leeron. You are writing in my wheehouse here! What I really appreciated about this was that it never pretended the coven’s anger came from nowhere. The story recognises that systems can genuinely wound people, while still questioning what happens when fear hardens into ideology and people become symbols instead of individuals. There’s a lot of nuance in that, wrapped inside a story about accidentally turning a man into a squirrel 😄would read the sh*t out of this as a serial.
As an AFAB nonbinary person, misandry masquerading as feminism is a constant bane of my existence, so this was very cathartic to write. I did not expect to achieve nuance, but I’ll take it! 😆
It’s very much ‘war is terrible!’ - yes, I’m totally with you! Let’s - ‘if we just kill all the soldiers, war will end’. Uh, no, that’s not what’s driving war…
Then you end up with “‘feminist’” groups arguing for requiring women to carry their birth certificates to take part in public life, to “protect against men”. 😐 And I’m stuck having to argue against being stripped of my rights rather than fighting the patriarchy! I just… I’m tired. So freaking tired. And that all bubbled out onto the page. If it was coherent and managed to resonant with someone, I’m calling that a win. 😄
Yeah. It is exhausting. I really appreciate what you’re doing with your writing — it definitely came off as more than ‘coherent’. I relate deeply to the exhaustion of arguing nuance … I feel like I have been doing that all week this week!
